The most common place you have seen a solar cell is probably a solar power calculator and probably wondered why these devices never need a battery and manages to keep going on and on.

They might not even need an on and off button – well these are powered by solar cells which work as long as there is enough light. Apart from calculators – other places you seen solar cells are emergency road signs, call boxes, buoys and parking lots to power the lights.

So what solar cells do is convert the suns energy directly into electricity. They can do this without the use of either chemical reactions or moving parts.
